A San Diego iconic ride that is Challenging, Scenic, and even Thrilling! A MUST DO for all cycling enthusiasts!
We leave HARRAH'S RINCON and the climbing begins immediately--and continues for about 15 miles at an average of 7-8% (with some 10% thrown in for good measure!).
Ride up to the World-Famous Palomar Observatory, then head down "East Grade" for a thrilling descent with Views of Lake Henshaw!
Then its a nice "cruise" back to the start (with some additional climbing)--and some more FUN downhills as your reward!
Please note that there is a convenience store and restaurant at Palomar Mountain, and the Observatory has restroom and water.
You will be challenged. You will need to pace yourself. You will be PROUD!
NOTE: The following are ways to reconfigure the ride:
1) Don't ride to the Observatory;
2) Go back via South Grade (the way you went up)
3) Turn-Around "anytime"
*Non-Members may ride one "test" ride.
Note: Due to the wide-range of fitness and ability levels among cyclists, you should load the course onto your GPS device in case you become separated from the group (ahead OR behind!)
Ride Duration Time is Estimated
All Riders must be self-sufficient (nutrition, hydration, tools, tubes, etc.)
